1.summary Technology is a collection of technologies, methods, or processes used to produce goods or services or to achieve goals, such as scientific research. Technology primarily means the knowledge that promotes production, but technology products are also considered technology as they play a role in facilitating production or helping to achieve goals. The text discusses two topics: social networks and gender inequality. When it comes to social networks, it has the same benefits as business networking and maintaining connections with distant friends and family. However, sexual bias may exist within the digital realm of social networks. 2.interesting point One interesting point in the above text is the potential benefit of video games in enhancing visual attention. Action games that require rapid responses and divided attention, such as Halo, can improve players' ability to focus on relevant visual information. This is particularly significant in today's information-filled ...

INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY/RACE AND ETHNICITY 1.SUMMARY The race is classified by biological factors. Ethnicity is related to this, but it is not the same thing. ethnicity focus on social attribute(nationality, tribe, religious faith…). There are many debates regarding race, such as debates on the definition of race, and it affects society in the form of discrimination. Racism can occur at the individual level or at the social level. This leads to other discriminations such as cultural racism, historical racism, and discrimination in salary. Racism is still prevalent in society, even though the boundaries between countries have been broken down more than before due to globalization. 2.INTERESTING POINT   As people from different racial backgrounds intermarry, the biological and genetic boundaries between racial groups become increasingly blurred. Many individuals who self-identify as belonging to a particular racial group may have mixed ancestry, reflecting the complexity and...

1.summary In sociology, genders are divided into cultural and social factors, and sex is divided by genetic and biological factors. Cis is a person who has the same gender as the biologically innate Sex, and trans is a conform people who follow another Sex than the biologically innate Sex. A person has one of two genders after birth: a woman and a man. However, this is inconsistent with the biological realities of real people and does not reflect all diversity. (Like intersex, trans..) But it's obvious that there are physiological differences between women and men. Due to gender differences, there are various discriminations, and the scope is revealed in various fields such as wages, work, and status. In the process of reducing such discrimination, care should be taken not to reverse discrimination. 2. Interesting points Gender is a socially constructed concept, shaped by certain cultural and social factors. Society gives different expectations and roles to women and men, which can...

1.summary : Social inequality is the uneven distribution of resources in society, and the criteria vary, such as gender, age, and status, which is also related to economic inequality and can occur in all societies. Income and wealth are mainly used as indicators of social inequality, and the pattern of inequality from an economic perspective is as follows. : Income gap, gender inequality, age inequality, health care and social class, food inequality. There is an opinion that the uneven distribution of these resources is a natural result according to ability. : meritocracies. However, these opinions do not fully guarantee compensation for all merit and may be related to corruption. Differences in natural status should also be considered. In a society that considers only natural status, social inequality is called caste inequality. As inequality occurs in a series in today's society, the extreme of social resources is intensifying. In addition, as spatiotemporal constraints decreas...

w.13.1 social stratification Summary : People do not have all the same social factors. Through this, people can be classified relatively, which is called social stratification. The elements and classes that make up social stratification are also different for each society and culture. The more complex society is, the higher the degree of social stratification. In some cases, movement between layers is possible, but there are also classes with limited movement. Social stratification is affected by various social factors, including economic factors. This social stratification has a lot of influence on society. Some people say that social order maintenance and social stabilization have a positive effect on social stratification, while others say it is a means of extreme resources and entrenching differences between people and have a negative impact.  Four principles of social stratification 1. Social property. 2. Reproduced between generations. 3. It is universal and vari...

Why fewer women enroll in college/university in Korea than men? : Until just a few decades ago, the prevailing tendency in Korean society was to think of men getting jobs and working and women doing housework as a common family. Therefore, women who do housework often thought that they did not need to study, so women attending universities that were not essential education were inevitably smaller than men. That is why such results have been shown. However, as society develops, awareness related to gender differences grows, and the number of men and women going to college does not differ significantly without distinguishing roles according to gender.

Dramaturgy(sociology) 1.summary The play shows interactions in everyday life. The play emphasizes expressing ourselves as an important part of social interaction and focuses on the elements of time, place, and audience. As on stage, we adjust settings, dress, speech, and nonverbal behavior to make a specific impression on others in our daily lives. The play suggests that an individual's identity is constantly formed according to the situation and relationship. 2.interesting point I found it interesting that individual identities are not always fixed, but constantly changing depending on the situation. Through this, I learned again that society and humans always interact. I also learned that people have various roles in society and that their roles can be of various colors. I also learned that people's identity is influenced by various history, society, and culture. 3.discussion Do you think human life is a play?

1.summary  : Symbolic interactionism is worked to communicate between people. At this time, symbol can be understood even if they are not explained separately by putting the same meaning on something, which helps better interaction between people. A representative example of a symbol is language. This has been talked about by various scholars such as George Herbert Mead and Herbert Blumber in sociology. They focused on people meaning to physical reality rather than looking at it as it is. This is not only for scholars, but also for everyone in society. 2.interesting point It was interesting that it was not to accept the physical phenomenon as it is, but to accept the meaning given to the physical phenomenon. I wondered if there could be a society where symbols do not exist and I was curious about the idea that all social phenomena can be seen as created by humans. 3.discussion What would happen if there were no symbols in society?

W.10.1 INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY/DEVIANCE 1.SUMMARY deviance is divided into formal deviance and informal deviance. It is diverse and is defines differently depending on society. Sociology explain deviance in the following way. : Psychological and Biological explanations (conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreats, rebellion) , Social-strain typology , Structural-functionalism , Conflict , Labeling (: individuals are defined by how others perceive and label them).   What is needed to prevent or not todo deviance again is social control. Social control is divided into formal and informal. And it is based on retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation, societal protection. 2.INTERESTING POINT   The content of the ‘Labeling theory’ “A deviant label is applies to them” was interesting.   Labeling theory suggests that social deviance is not just a result of an individual's behavior but also the way society reacts to that behavior. According to this theory, an individual'...

Why inequality creates disorder? Inequality can lead to inefficient use of resources.   For example, if only a small portion of the population has access to education or capital , then many potentially productive individuals   may be unable to contribute to the economy.   This can result in   lower economic growth , reduced innovation , overall inefficiency   and disorder in society.

Laws are sand, customs are rock. Laws can be evaded and punishment escapes, but an openly transgressed custom brings sure punishment.—Mark Twain. Why? What did Twain mean by that? In this quote, Mark Twain is emphasizing the power of customs and traditions in a society. Because He thinks that   customary behavior is deeply rooted in a society and forms the foundation of its social norms,   so violating them would lead to social disapproval and possibly exclusion from the group.   Because In conclusion, he thoughts customs are more enduring and fundamental than laws.

w.9.2 introduction to sociology/socialization KIMNAKYOUNG 김나경

1.summary  Elements of socialization -goals Socialization is what humans learn to live their lives, and socialization between society and groups appears in various ways. This does not mean that all human behavior is the result of socialization. -primary and secondary socialization The process of learning the cultural norms of society that members of society belong to according to birth is called primary socialization. Compared to this, secondary socialization is the process of socializing by learning the values and attitudes of the group as an individual belongs to a specific vocational group. -broad and narrow socialization Arnett proposed a distinction between broad and narrow socialization, where broad promotes independence and self-expression, while narrow promotes obedience and conformity. -total institution Socialization is not always valid or successful, and there are installations like prisms and mental health facilities designed to socialize. Who were not su...

w.9.1 Government _ KIMNAKYOUNG 김나경

1.summary Government is a system or group of people governing an organized community, with legislature, executive, and judiciary branches. It enforces and determines policy, often with a constitution defining governing principles. Various political systems have existed, such as democracies, monarchies, and authoritarian regimes, with the philosophy of government defined by how political power is obtained. The classification of political systems is important in political science, particularly in the fields of comparative politics and international relations. However, identifying a form of government is difficult because many political systems originate as socio-economic movements and are then carried into governments by parties naming themselves after those movements. Other complications include non-consensus and deliberate distortion or bias of reasonable technical definitions to political ideologies and associated forms of governing, due to the nature of politics in the modern e...

Q.  Would you like to have more say in the political decision making? Should we transform our representative democracies to direct democracies and make politicians obsolete? A.  I think representative democracies do not truly represent the will of the people and that more direct forms of democracy.  But I don’t think that we should transform our representative democracies to direct democracies and make politicians obsolete.  Because   it could lead to a lack of accountability and potential chaos in decision-making processes.

How does media(tv, internet) teach us how to act and where we fit in the society? Media, such as TV and the internet, can influence how we perceive social norms and expectations , shaping our attitudes and behaviors.   Through exposure to different media , we can learn about various cultural values, social roles, and identity categories , and how they relate to our own sense of self and place in society. w.8.2 KIMNAKYOUNG 김나경

1. It deals with the introduction of politics in sociology. Politics is the exercise of power in society, which occurs not only in relation to the state, but also in everyday life. Politics involves decision-making, practice, and distribution of power, which is done at various levels. The understanding of politics enhances the understanding of human interaction and the role of members of society, and plays an important role in the development and stability of the community. 2. The difference in meaning between authority and power was impressive. Authority and power are used in a similar sense, but there are subtle differences. Authority means social respect or influence, and power means enabling control or instruction to achieve a particular purpose. These differences are very important in sociology because high authority and low power increase the respect and influence of others, but may actually limit the authority to give control or instructions to achieve a particular purpose. Conv...

1.  Studying the social causes and effects of economic phenomena is called economic sociology. This field is divided into the classical period and the modern period, which mainly dealt with modernity and consequent rationalization, secularization, urbanization, and social stratification. This tendency can be seen as the emergence of sociology in response to capitalist modernity. Economics played an important role in many classical sociological studies. The term economic sociology was first coined by William Stanley Jevons, and later used in the works of Émile Durkheim, Max Weber, Georg Simmel and others. Weber best represents the classical economic sociological approach with his study of the relationship between economics and religion and the cultural “fassment” of modern Western culture. Modern economic sociology includes all modern social aspects of economic phenomena, and can be seen as a field of study at the intersection of economics and sociology. Research topics frequently c...

1.summary Studying religion using sociological methods (quantitative, physical) is called the sociology of religion. This also includes the sociology of non-religion. It's not about studying the validity of religion, it's about how it affects society. Durkheim, Weber, and Marxs were were interested in relationship of religion and society. Symbolic anthropology and phenomenology suggest that humans have a need for reassurance that the world is safe and ordered, which is fulfilled by various forms of non-scientific knowledge present in societies. Functionalism argues that non-scientific belief systems, such as religion, provide benefits for social organization by promoting social order, stability, and social support through spiritual and material assistance in times of need. Rationalism rejects phenomenological and functionalist approaches, emphasizing the importance of understanding why people believe in non-scientific knowledge from their point of view. They see the rise of sc...

1.summary The economy was close to survival and arose from social relations through exchange. These exchanges are the result of pursuing public or private interests. As society grew, the economy grew, capitalism, and industrial revolution emerged. In the flow of capitalism, there were phenomena such as industrialization, division of labor, mechanization, monopoly, panic, etc. These phenomena were all interactions with commodities, means of production, labor, land, and money, and are affected by demand, supply, and competition. In capitalist countries, individuals are guaranteed maximum freedom, both economically and socially. But this capitalism is also seen as another way to create and maintain social inequality. On the contrary, socialism is explained an equal society through equal access to the resources of all individuals. In socialist countries, most things, such as production and distribution, are determined by the government. It is criticized for not guaranteeing freedom. 2...

introduction to sociology/religion 1.summary sociologists study religion same way they sudy society using methodological aprroaches like survey analysis..etc. They take neutral attitude so they don’t want to evaluate religion is right or wrong.  Religion are defined as  <sacred vs profane>,  <religion as existential questioning>,  Only people who try to answer existential questions are considered religious. <religion as supernature>. But there are criticism about deifine about religion. One of them is 'something daliy one can be sacred, too’. So the range of definition is too wide. There are type of religion : church(all-encompassing worldview), denomination, sect(rebellious & spontaneity), cult(new religious group but not have to seperated, temporary) or new religious movement. Theories of region try to explain  function ,role ,nature of religion. structural-functional :+ social cohesion, social control, providing meaning and purpo...
