W4.2 Introduction_to_Sociology/Culture

1) Summarize

Culture is not culture by its delay. Culture includes all the characteristics, symbols, norms, beliefs, etc. of various objects. And culture continues to change and develop. It's not fixed. Many social theorists mentioned language and emphasized that the culture of language was not fixed and had changed steadily socially. He also introduced the concept of culture and mentioned the perception of high culture in the 18th and 19th centuries.

It also explained the subculture under the culture and the counterculture against the culture that exists. He also introduced cultural relativism that requires respect for other cultures, emphasizing that cultures are diverse and change.

2) Interesting point

I was familiar with all of them because I learned them when I was in high school and in social culture classes. In particular, the terms subculture, counterculture, and cultural relativism remain in memory. However, it was good that I learned in depth about the origin of culture, the characteristics of culture, and future culture, going further from what I learned in high school. In particular, it was interesting that culture was not culture in itself, but contained all beliefs, values, cultures, and norms in society. In addition, I thought that people should understand and respect each other's perception of culture because even the same culture can give each other their own meaning and change at any time.

3) Question

Isn't Countercultures a culture?

  2. Anti-culture is also a culture. Anti-culture is a culture that is included in the subculture. And just because it's against mainstream culture, it doesn't mean that it's not recognized as a culture. Also, in modern society, I think it is necessary to respect and understand everyone's thoughts and values. It's anti-cultural now, but it can turn into a mainstream culture over time. For example, women did not have the right to vote before. In addition, the protests of women claiming rights could have been called counterculture. But over time, in modern society, all adults, regardless of gender, are given the right to vote.
