Interesting point
Max Weber used
social class to study wealth and status. For him, social stratification was
closely related to prestige and privilege. It can explain social reproduction,
i.e. the tendency for social stratification to remain stable over generations
and also to maintain most inequalities. Such inequalities include differences
in income, wealth, access to education, pension levels, social status,
socio-economic safety nets, etc. Generally speaking, social class can be
defined as a large group of people located in a similar class within a
hierarchy and distinguished from other large groups within the hierarchy by
characteristics such as occupation, education, income and wealth.
