2.Interesting point

The sociology of religion is a discipline that studies the role, influence and significance of religion in society, and there are different views and theoretical perspectives among scholars from all walks of life in the world. Three main perspectives are included in the article as follows:

1Functionalist view: The role of religion in society is to meet the emotional and spiritual needs of human beings and to provide moral codes and norms for society. Religion can help people build beliefs and values, provide social order and stability, and form a common identity and identification within a group.

2Rationalist view: Rationalists believe that religious phenomena can be understood and explained through the scientific method, rather than by faith and mysticism alone. They usually believe that religion is a social phenomenon that can be analyzed and studied by sociological methods.

3Symbolic anthropology and phenomenology: Emphasizing the role of signs, symbols and symbolic exchanges in society and culture, religious symbols and rituals are considered to be symbolic expressions of people's beliefs and values, and are interpretations and understandings of the natural and social world.

  2. I think the roles of religion are the following three points:
    1) Social cohesion – religion helps maintain social cohesion through shared rituals and beliefs;
    2) Social control – religion-based morality and norms help maintain social coherence and control;
    3) Religion can also legitimize political institutions and provide meaning and purpose – religion can provide answers to existential questions
