W15.2 Introduction to Sociology/Demography
1) Summary
Demography is a study of the dynamics of human population, and it also studies how it changes due to population structure, size, distribution, birth and death of population, migration and aging. Demographics rely primarily on large datasets derived from census and registration statistics. Demographers focus on specific indicators of change because demographics are concerned with population changes. Demographic change is a model and theory that explains the shift from high birth and death rates to low birth and death rates as part of a country's economic development. Urbanization also has many links to demography. Urbanization causes more and more people to leave villages and farms to live in the city, resulting in urban growth. People migrate to cities in search of economic opportunities. This shows the process of population density changing.
2) interesting point
I read most interestingly about population growth and decline. The bad thing about overpopulation is that even though the earth's resources are limited, if there is a large population, the war over scarce resources intensifies and cannot feed the entire population well. Characteristics of overpopulation include child poverty, high birth rates, low life expectancy, high unemployment and inadequate cultivated land. The best and surest solution to the problem caused by overpopulation is to reduce the birth rate. On the contrary, there is a problem that the economy does not improve when the population is insufficient.
3)Question
Look for the problems that demographics deal with.
