W14.2 Introduction to Sociology/Race and Ethnicity

 1)Summary

Race is a population group that is thought to be distinguished by physical differences. Race classification is classified into skin color and facial features. However, the concept of race is often controversial because social identity affects social classes. The controversy over how to understand race continues within the academic field. Some sociologists have stated that race is a social construct. They say race is an artificial distinction, not a natural one. Recently, there is a lot of rejection to use the word race, so many sociologists have recently replaced the word race rather than race. The biggest argument about race is that it is divided into skin colors such as white, black, and paldo. They say the best way to understand race is to recognize that socially constructed boundaries and biological/genetic elements are allocated.

2)Interesting point

The content about prejudice and racism has come to me with the most interesting. Prejudice is to think that you will do so by judging something beforehand. Prejudice is generally based on social stereotypes, meaning negative views. However, in this article, prejudice is a belief and cannot be interpreted as discrimination. Racism is to think that one race is better or worse than another. Racism can be expressed unconsciously through explicit thoughts, feelings, or actions. Racism can occur structurally, historically and culturally. All forms of racism are still widespread in the inequalities found in various aspects of society that continue to exist by race today, but I think everyone should try to overcome them.

3)Question

What kind of perception do you have about race?
