W 14.2 Race_and_Ethnicity

1) Summarize

Race is generally used to group individuals according to shared genetic characteristics. These features can include skin color, hair shape, eye shape, height, and so on. But because race is a social concept, not a biological one, human genetic diversity is complicated to be simply classified as race. Race is often affected socially, politically, and economically, and problems such as racism can arise.

Ethnicity generally refers to a group of individuals who share language, culture, history, and specific geographical influences. Ethnicity is often linked to the identity of the community, sharing common values, traditions, customs, religions, etc. Ethnicity can often be linked to identity on a national, geographical, or historical basis, which can be an important part of an individual's self-identity.

Race and ethnicity are complex and diverse topics, and can be difficult to understand. These concepts are deeply related to the unique experiences, cultural backgrounds, and social contexts of individuals and groups. Understanding race and ethnicity therefore plays an important role in respecting mutual respect, human rights and equality.

Ethnic stratification refers to a social structure or phenomenon that divides humans into classes according to race. This is based on the assumption that certain races are superior or inferior to others. Ethnic stratification is closely related to racism, which can lead to inequality in power, resources, opportunities, education, and social status.

Ethnic stratification has historically occurred in many societies and is based on racist ideas and policies. These ideas claim that certain races are superior to others, and tend to justify racial inequality. These ideas and policies can maintain or deepen racism and racial disparities.

2) Interesting point

Ethnic stratification is considered a concept that contradicts democracy, human rights, social justice, etc. In a society that respects diversity and inclusion, efforts must be made to overcome racial stratification and promote racial equality and human rights. Overcoming racial stratification requires efforts and dialogue at various levels, including education, raising awareness, and personal and institutional changes. Through this, we can build a fair and respectful society for human rights.
