Racial and ethnic stratification
Racial
Race refers to a group of humans with cultural or biological characteristics that are divided into common body shape, face shape, skin color, hair color, and eye color. These racial characteristics are expressed in various ways depending on specific regions, geographical, historical backgrounds, anthropological, and humanities factors. However, racial distinctions are not always fair, depending on consultation, and biologically difficult to distinguish. Conflicts can also occur within each culture and individual social situations, including various ethnic behavior patterns, values, and ways of thinking. Therefore, understanding and respecting race are important, and in the event of problems such as racism or racial conflict, efforts should be made to understand and solve each other through dialogue.
Ethnic
Ethnicity refers to a group that shares language, culture, history, geographical status, biological characteristics, etc., and has a sense of community. The concept of ethnicity is diverse and can be classified by various criteria such as nationality, race, religion, and cultural factors. In some cases, it has ethnic unity, and various ethnic groups interact and combine with each other to form a mixed race. People usually value their history and culture. This self-consciousness is often one of the important factors for all ethnic groups to respect each other and continue to talk. However, if this concept of ethnicity is separated from the medical industry, military, economic industry, imbalance in human rights, social ideology, etc., it can lead to political problems, discrimination problems, etc. Therefore, communication is considered important as we grow up interacting with and respecting each culture and ethnicity.
the current state of racism
Racism has long been a part of human history. To this day, racism and inequality still exist in various places around the world. There are various examples that prove this.
1. South Africa's Apartheid
It is a segregation system that was implemented in South Africa from 1948 to 1994. White people were given various privileges, and black people were bullied, such as losing their rights to not be treated as human beings and being banned from entering.
2. racism in the United States
- segregation: providing black people with separate facilities and living separately from white people.
- Ethnic Ignatian border: means restrictions on ethnic groups moving across borders.
- Race Prejudice: Some white people think black people are inferior, discriminate against them. This is often viewed as a difference, especially in economic and educational opportunities.
3. racism in Japan
There is discrimination against Koreans and immigrants in Japan. For example, there are various cases in which voting is restricted in some provinces if local voters are Korean.
These cases of racism are part of a serious problem with human rights. In order to solve racism and build a fair society, we must strive endlessly.
