Government

The government refers to a system of individuals governing an organized community, and in present days, it is normally a state. The government usually consists of three limbs - the legislature, the executive branch, and the judiciary. The legislature is an assembly of individuals responsible for lawmaking. Normally, legislators may be elected by the citizens or appointed by other authorities like the executives. Some argued that those elected by the citizens or through some sort of popularity or majority vote may be able to represent the citizens’ interests better, because they may come from that demographic or have more personal experience and connections with the interested groups; and for those appointed by authorities, there may be worries that they are just elites with their own vested interests and interested in getting more power by acting as legislators. The executive branch would enforce the law legislated, for example, by implementing schemes and policies or outsourcing certain programs to companies or individuals in the society. The judiciary basically consists of courts that would mitigate legal disputes, through which they may interpret the law and apply both statutes and case laws. While in some countries there is a separation of power between the three branches, in other countries, the functions may be more fused together. Some may consider the former to better balance the powers among the three branches and avoid abuse of power, while others consider the latter to discharge their functions more efficiently by working together.
