Culture

The concept of culture encompasses not only objects or behavior but also norms, values, beliefs, or expressive symbols. Roughly speaking, norms are the way people behave in a given society, values are what they hold dear, beliefs are how they think the universe operates and expressive symbols are representations.

Culture is dynamic and can be taught and learned, making it a potentially rapid form of adaptation to changes in physical conditions which shows the main means of human adaption to the natural world.

Subculture refers to a culture shared and actively participated in by a minority of people within a border culture. A counterculture is a subculture with the addition that some of its beliefs, values, or norms challenge or even contradict those of the main culture of which it is a part.

Acculturation results from contact between cultures, and in this context refers to the replacement of the traits of one culture with those of another. In the context of globalization in recent years, acculturation will only become more notable. Only time will tell whether or not there will be a dramatic shift in Asian India culture about its perception and treatment of cows due to globalization.
