W12.2 Dramaturgy (sociology)

 1.Summary

Dramaturgy is a sociological perspective commonly used in micro-sociological explanations and concerns social interactions in everyday life. For example, it means introducing yourself to others. This theory suggests that an individual's identity is not a stable and independent psychological entity, but is constantly reconstructed through interaction with others. In addition, in the drama-tul miracle model, social interaction is analyzed in the way people live their lives like actors acting on stage. Such analyses demonstrate the concept of the same state as parts of the play.

2.Interesting point

I first learned the theory of drama itself, and it became interesting to explain terms such as front stage, back stage, and off stage. In society, individuals must introduce themselves in a particular way. In society, people get attention when they deviate from the norm. Therefore, it is called the front stage to draw attention to people because they express their costumes in different clothes in front of stage audiences. The second one is the backstage. The backstage freely expresses unforgivable behavior on the front stage and gives you a sense of relief. In other words, backstage behavior is to please yourself, not others. Lastly, the off-stage is for individuals not to participate in the performance, but to perform a specific performance by subdividing the audience.

3.Question

Of the seven elements Goffman identifies in terms of performance, what do you think is the most important? Then, what is the reason?
