13.1-Social stratification

1) Summarization

Social stratification refers to the hierarchical arrangement of social classes or groups within a society. It is determined by factors such as wealth, occupation, education, and power. In a stratified society, some individuals or groups enjoy more privileges and opportunities than others. This can create inequality, as those who are higher in the social hierarchy have greater access to resources, status, and prestige. Social stratification can also affect social mobility, as it can be difficult to move up or down between different social classes. Some societies have tried to mitigate the negative effects of stratification through policies such as affirmative action or progressive taxation. However, social stratification remains a significant challenge for many societies today.
