Symbolic interactionism is a theoretical perspective in sociology and communication studies that focuses on the meaning that individuals attach to symbols and how those symbols shape their behavior. It suggests that individuals actively create and modify their own social reality through constant, ongoing interaction with others. This perspective emphasizes the importance of communication and how it provides the tools to create and maintain social relationships. Symbolic interactionism examines how individuals use symbols to construct their reality and how these symbols can be interpreted differently by different people. It emphasizes the significance of language, gestures, and other forms of non-verbal communication in constructing and interpreting meaning.
