11.2 social network
Social network is a social structure that has a social interaction between the actors of the society. 'Social network' is used to study the relationships between individuals, groups, organizations or whole societies. Including the various fields of studies like Anthropology, Biology, Communication Studies, Economics, Geography, Information Science, Histology and Sociology.
Émile Durkheim and Ferdinand Tönnies showed the prototype of the social network. Tönnies presented 2 concepts. The one is the "community" the person and informal contact is made plus this is made by the individuals who share the same beliefs. The other is the "society" where the impersonal and formal contact is made. Durkheim explained the social facts in non-individual ways. He said that social phenomena occur when the individual actor think beyond the individuals.
There are three general levels that social networks may used.
1.micro-level - individual or the small group of the individuals.
2. meso-level - in this level the scale of the human is lower than Marco and larger then micro.
3. macro-level - in this level the large scale studies that analyze social and economical factor is used more than the individual level of studies.
Social holes - in social networks there is a benefits gained by position in the network. When u connected with the other persons in the network you may gained the information of the group. But there might be an differences between groups. This is the social holes.
2. Discussion
There is a theory name heterophily theory. This theory suggests that increase of the week ties can accelerate the innovations. Because people who has a similar social characteristics think very similarly so there is a less innovation. Granovetter claimed that this is the power of the week ties. This can explain why the USA and China are the most innovative countries in the world. USA is full of the immigrants came from the various nations. The china has a huge number of the population who has a various thoughts.
