W10.1 Deviance

1. Summarize

Deviance is any act that violates cultural norms. There are two types of deviations. formal and informal deviations. The theory of deviance is also divided into various categories. There are conflict theory and labeling theory. It also explains the incidence of crime and imprisonment in the United States in connection with the theory of deviation. The U.S. population is the third largest in the world after China and India, but the proportion of the population in prison is the highest in the world. The recidivism rate is also high. Statistics show that crime rates vary by gender and race. In addition, it shows various cases of deviation, such as deviation from college, deviation from games, and deviation from tattoos.

2. Interesting point

I thought it was a deviation from my society to simply skip school classes or order late-night snacks at night. However, when I looked at deviations statistically in relation to the actual crime rate in the United States, I found that the problem of formal deviations was also serious. So, I learned how big the impact of official deviations is on our society, and in the future, I thought it would be necessary to recognize and act that even minor deviations can have a great influence on our society.

3. Question

Can I simply be seen as a deviation that affects society by playing video games?
