W8.2 Introduction to Sociology/Politics
1) Summarize
This wiki is an introduction to political science. First, this article explains politics. Politics can be defined as the process of making social and economic decisions in a social group.
Political power is a type of power that has the positive effect of being able to manage the distribution of public resources in that group. But leaders can use these powers to negatively influence people's behavior.
The next concept is authority. Authority is the same term as power. There are three types of authority. The first is rational legal authority. This is an authority that relies on the legitimacy of the state's laws. The second is traditional authority. It comes from a long tradition and structure. Finally, charismatic authority. Charismatic authority here refers to the charisma that comes from the individual leader. An example of this type is the founder of a religious organization.
Types of government include monarchy, democracy, totalitarianism, oligarchy, communism, and theocracy. Monarchy is a form of government in which supreme power is given absolutely, nominally by individuals. And democracy is a form of government where the majority of citizens have control. Totalitarianism is a form of government that regulates all aspects of public and private life. An oligarchy is a form of government in which power is effectively dependent on a small number of elite sectors of society. A communist state is a form of government that gives the government a dominant role according to the Constitution. Shinjeong is short for theocracy, a form of government in which God is recognized as the supreme civic ruler of the country.
2) Mention new, interesting, or unusual items learned
The most interesting part of this wiki is that politics is more relevant than I thought. In particular, the part related to race was the most interesting because the possibility of voting varies depending on the race, and it was interesting that these points were objectively expressed through the chart.
3) Question
What form of government do you think is most appropriate in modern society?
The most appropriate form of government for modern society is not the absolute correct answer, which may vary depending on the culture, history, values, etc. of society. There are various forms of government, each with its strengths and weaknesses and characteristics. Determining which form of government is best suited therefore requires consideration of complex and diverse factors. In most modern societies, however, the typical form of government is often chosen. Democracy is a political system that respects the rights and freedoms of individual citizens and respects and reflects the will of the people. It has the characteristic that various opinions are respected and decision-making is made by majority vote. Democracy guarantees the rights and freedoms of individual citizens, and respects diversity and inclusion. Also, we try to reach social consensus through inclusive decision-making and conversation. Because of this nature, most countries tend to choose democracy. However, in order to determine which form of government is most appropriate, local culture, historical background, and social conditions must be considered. In addition, the form of government can change with the changes of the times and the development of society, and there may be cases where appropriate improvement and innovation are needed. Therefore, the optimal form of government should be constantly reviewed, discussed, and improved.
