8.2 politics and society

 


1. Summary

What is politics? Politics is a process of making a socioeconomical decision in the group of people. It have been existed since the human appeared.

Political power means a power to control how the wealth, resources and so on is distributed. Or it means a power to influence others in social sectors. Not only political leaders have a political power but also coperations, terrorists groups and so on have it.

Authority in sociology means the claim of legitimacy. Rational-legal authority is authority made by law and formal rule. The president or prime Ministers of the democratic nation are great examples. Traditional authority is authority granted by traditional customs. The Saudi Arabian feudal de-facto ruler Bin Salam is a great example of this. Charismatic authority is authority based on the charisma of the leader. Most of this leaders are religious leaders like Joseph Smith the founder of Mormon church.

In the modern society the state or government is the only organization that solely use violence legally. This legitimacy and how they use this can be controversial and be discussed in various social contracts. 

The forms of government is quite varied even in this world. There are monarchy, authoritarian, democracy, oligarchy and theocracy(I think modern day iran is theocracy so I included this). 

Even in the democracy the form of political parties in the government is varied. Some nations like usa the only two party has a power to be elected. The countries like Germany, Sweden and so on has a multiple parties in the parliament. 

Right now everyone can vote but there are inequality in democracy. Man, majority race and rich have more political power in the modern politics. 

2. Discussion

In this book it said that "There is an increasing gap between individuals who espouse conservative ideology and those who advocate a more progressive ideology." It is partly true because many rulling class of this society has a different purposes in themselves. For examples both oil capitalist and coal capitalist supported Donald trump but however they started to fight after election because they are competing against each other in the market. But we should worth caring that mainstream politicians follow the certain agenda made by rulling class of society. Whether they are left or right. They should follow the certain agenda to be elected.

About 10 years ago far left party in Greece won the election but they became very very moderate when they entered the government. This happened the same at last year's Italian election. The meloni used to praise Mussolini as a great leader and she is very far right but she is now saying she is against authoritarianism and it is the left who is really authoritarian. Why this funny circus made? Because politicians are not control the system. The capitalists and elites are controlling the real politics. I am not fan of the conservatives but I think conservative writers like Patrick Deneen have well written. Whether the left or right the modern day politicians are followers of liberalism. They both want to destroy the community values like religion and so on by their own tools. The Left use the state and the right use the market. This make the fragments of people but it is made by one ideology. This makes me interesting. What do u think?

Will democracy survive in this century?

    I think democracy will remain until this century. Currently, democracy is the majority of the various systems around the world. The established system begins to take a long time to change again. Various revolutions in history can also be seen in the long term, not in the short term. This is true of the Industrial Revolution alone. It remains to be seen whether democracy will survive later, but I think it will last for nearly 100 years now.
